Richard Shindell - Not Far Now (Signature)

This record may be the best release of the decade. Richard Shindell is the master of point-of-view, sometimes playing the dispassionate observer, but often inhabiting the very soul of one of his characters. In "A Juggler Out in Traffic," he's the holy fool entertaining the self-absorbed; in "One Man's Arkansas," he's the American Dream gone busted and looking for the survivor's edge. Those who caught Shindell at the Iron Horse last November heard him sing "Balloon Man" as a work in progress; hear it as a finished product and you'll understand how editing transforms goodness into greatness. Shindell wraps his poetic vision in moody, moving arrangements. The thinking man's folk singer has just raised the bar. —Rob Weir
9:00pm Kathy Phillips
9:00pm Kathy Phillips
A confident talent with a strong, emotive voice who can really craft her songs. Phillips is one of those under the radar gems that you are glad to come across. Delivering a tasty little date that’s right on the money whether kicking it out on originals or covers, Phillips has a quality that you wouldn’t expect from a Jersey girl that pulls you in with it’s heartland charm. Sets like this certainly show that indie is the new alt. (Midwest Record)

Kathy returns to the festival this year along with Jazz guitar great Walt Bibinger
8:00pm Steve Forbert
8:00pm Steve Forbert
“Music should be truthful and real,” Forbert once said, “but it should also be uplifting and healing.” That’s a philosophy he’ll be honoring throughout 2009 as he continues his very personal and spirited relationship with a loyal fan base that is growing old gracefully along with its favorite troubadour.
7:30pm Joe Whyte
7:30pm Joe Whyte
Combining equal parts folk, rock and Americana, NYC-area singer/songwriter
JOE WHYTE's songs have been described as "alt-country pearls that shimmer
with simplicity and effectiveness” and "beautifully crafted, melancholic
Americana."
Dubbed, “The King of NYC Americana” by music blog Twangnation, Joe is
releasing a new EP titled, WHEN THE DAY BREAKS, on June 8th. It is a
stripped-down, acoustic-based follow-up to 2007’s critically-acclaimed
full-band album, Devil in the Details. Though primarily a solo affair, Joe
is joined on a few songs by band members Catherine Popper (Grace Potter,
Ryan Adams) on bass and vocals, and Dan Marcus (Crescent & Frost, Ana
Egge) on guitar, dobro and mandolin.
Joe has Northeast tour dates planned for the summer in support of the EP,
including shows with Justin Townes Earle & Cadillac Sky.
6:30pm Charlotte Kendrick & Dan Rowe
6:30pm Charlotte Kendrick & Dan Rowe
Poignant and poetic, Charlotte Kendrick is an artist who creates an irresistibly intimate world with her songs. Her music is tenderly performed Americana folk rock reminiscent of Lucy Kaplansky or Nanci Griffith. With a refreshingly understated voice, she sings in the tradition of folk singers to whom the song matters most.

"Quite simply put Walt Bibinger is the probably the best guitar player in New Jersey"...Matt Angus
